Membership Grants - Guidelines
WHO MAY APPLY
- Only current members of Northlands Storytelling Network (cost of membership is $45 per year)
- First-time applicants will be given priority
- Must not have received a Northlands’ grant in the previous calendar year
APPLICATION DEADLINE
- Applications must be received in the Northlands office by March 1 or September 1
- Board will review applications in April and October
APPLICATION NOTIFICATION
- Within 2 weeks following the Board meeting at which the proposal was considered (Note: Board meetings are routinely held on the first Thursday of the month)
AMOUNT OF REQUEST
- You may request up to and not exceeding $750 with the understanding that Northlands reserves the right to fund the request in full, in part, or not at all
FUNDING CRITERIA
- Grant requests must be applied for in advance of the project or event taking place
- Under extraordinary conditions caused by timing issues, the Board may, at its discretion, review a grant early and make a tentative decision to fund all or part of the request with the funds disbursed at the normal grant review time
- Funds must be used within nine months of the award
- Northlands Storytelling Network must be listed as a sponsor in event's marketing materials
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS OF RECIPIENTS
- An evaluation, including a final budget report, must be submitted within 30 days of the completion of the event or project
- In the event of cancellation of the event or project, the money granted by Northlands shall be repaid unless already expended for designated purposes as evidenced by receipts and any available documentation
CONSIDERATIONS
Northlands Storytelling Network will consider awarding grants to events and projects that:
- Honor storytelling as an art form
- Raise awareness of storytellers and storytelling
- Include Northlands’ members and/or will increase Northlands’ membership
- Support storytelling, involve more than one individual and impact the community at-large
- Have an educational component
- Allow storytellers to network and expand storytelling skills and opportunities
- Involve new storytelling venues and/or new storytelling group events
- Involve more than one funding source
Northlands Storytelling Network will not consider applications that:
- Rely on Northlands as the sole funding source
- Request funds to subsidize marketing for individuals
- Request funds to pay for education/enrichment (tuition, conference fees, etc.)
- Request funds for purchasing equipment, concessions, or performance prizes
