"I am a firm believer in the power of story. Sometimes we get sidetracked, as storytellers and listeners, into believing that the best storytelling takes place on the biggest stages. That is incorrect. The greatest stages are at the feet of the librarian, in the lap of a grandparent, around a dinner table, at the bedside of a child, or in a moving group led by a volunteer in a museum or history center. That is where the very best work is done.” --Kim WeitkampWhat does your story stage look like? No matter what that picture is, we should all strive to be stellar in our telling. Kim will take us through a casual, educational and entertaining workshop about performing in intimate spaces… no matter how big or small the audience.
In this workshop we will explore small space telling. Voice, movement and story preparation can look different when dealing with up close audiences. We will discuss reading your audience, preparing your story, adapting to small audience needs and energy, finding the perfect telling spot in odd rooms, and more.
Prior to the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to email questions to Kim so that the workshop is as personal and as specific as possible. Feel free to send in a question that does not fit the descriptions here, you can ask to remain anonymous. Send questions to: email@example.com with Workshop in the subject line.
Come prepared to interact as well as listen!
